The Katakana story

 

I am busy with my Japanese language, I have little time to write. I am working hard on my Japanese lesson. Japanese is quite interesting and easy to learn, I must say. It is similar to my mother tongue Tamil. Katakana is a different story. Katakana script is used to write foreign letters. The number of Katakana script is not enough to write the Tamil names. The Japanese are adding new scripts to improve. It is fun in the class to write the Tamil names in Katakana. But here is small discomfort. Most of the names, both for male and female, are the names of the God and Goddess. It sounds horrible if we write the names in katakana and read it. It is a sensitive issue. It is an issue connected with religion. None of them in the class took it seriously. Since Tamil Nadu is the most religious tolerant place in India, it is taken as easy thing. But rest of India, I am sure at this present scenario. In India people are always there to fish in the trouble waters.

 

To add to this little discomfort is my Japanese language teacher. She is a Japanese and excellent. Her dedication and perfection in teaching katakana makes this small discomfort into a big one. I know that, she respect and like her language. I too respect and love my language. Tamil is classical language and so I felt embarrassed.

 

My request to the Japanese is to add more katakana script to make up the shortfall. At least the writing of names of God and Goddess should be avoided.
